The Cross

J.S. Baxter

The Christ we worship and adore, though truly "Son of Man,"
Is God the Son for evermore, ere time and worlds began.
Both Son of God and God the Son, from all eternity,
Lot Father, Son, and Spirit, one in threefold unity.
Sheer mystery? Would it be less were God but One, not Three?
His unbeginning endlessness; could greater mystery be?
Lo, mystery far stranger still, The Son, our souls to save,
Once bled upon a somber hill, and lay within a grave!
Creator-Saviour, three in One, we worship, praise, adore;
Redeeming love and grace have won our hearts forevermore.
